Why are we called Maitland Travel?

We are often asked why we chose the name ‘Maitland Travel’. We had several conversations discussing possible names and actually ended up choosing the very first name we came up with! Maitland is small city near Sydney in Australia; probably unheard of to most but famous in the speedway world. It is widely recognised as the destination for the first official speedway event, way back in 1923. We hope you like the name as much as we do and you could even be part of a future trip, with us, to see Maitland for yourself!
THE MAITLAND DIFFERENCE

QUALITY STADIUM TICKETS
You can purchase grandstand seats for the Speedway GP (or headline speedway) event, from our group ticket allocation. These tickets are in sections of the stadium with prime viewing, usually near the start-line. If you would prefer to sit elsewhere or to purchase your own tickets, just let us know. For some lower-league events, seating may be unreserved.

SPECIALLY SELECTED ACCOMMODATION
Whether you look for five-star luxury or value for money; we always aim to offer the best quality hotels to suit your travel style and budget. Our speedway holidays include ‘classic’ accommodation (usually 4*) with facilities such as a restaurant & bar. Unless otherwise stated, breakfast will always be included in your stay.

FULLY ESCORTED BY PROFESSIONALS
Our speedway holidays are escorted by professional local drivers and a Maitland Travel holiday director, who are travel and speedway enthusiasts themselves. We aim to minimise unnecessarily long transfer times by staying in destinations near the event stadium, with flights into airports close to that destination.
REGIONAL AIRPORTS
All our speedway holidays include flights from Stansted and/ or Heathrow, with most also having regional airports, such as; Bristol, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Manchester. Please ask us about availability from your local airport, if it is not listed!
SOLO TRAVELLERS
We always encourage solo travellers to experience our speedway holidays with us! If you are travelling on your own, your holiday will be subject to a small single supplement, which is detailed on each holiday page.

NO HIDDEN CHARGES
All our speedway holidays show included highlights and optional experiences. This details exactly what is included in your package and what you may be required to budget for. All advertised prices are inclusive of all taxes. We never charge you for our ATOL or TTA financial protection, as we strongly believe these should always be included, free of charge.

EXPERT LOCAL KNOWLEDGE
Our holidays are carefully created with overseas specialists assisting us with accommodation, logistics, transport and experiences. All the important details are taken care of, making your time away stress free. Alongside your travel director, you will have access to the knowledge of specialist local guides on our specially chosen tours and excursions.

NO MARKUP ON TICKETS
All speedway stadium tickets you purchase from us will be the price that we paid for them. We will never charge you more than the face value, add markup or modify your tickets in any way. The ticket price will be based on the currency exchange rate at the time we purchased the tickets, which is usually between three and nine months before the event.
FLEXIBLE BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE
Our speedway holidays include a free small under seat bag (usually 40cm x 30cm x 20cm). You can upgrade to a large carry-on bag (usually 10kg) for just £40 or to a 20kg checked bag for just £60. These charges cover all flights in the holiday.
TRAVEL INSURANCE
We do not directly sell travel insurance to customers but we have partnered with one of the UK’s leading industry providers of travel insurance, Holiday Extras. For more information on how to book, please click here

COMPLETE PEACE OF MIND
We are a private limited company and a member of the Travel Trust Association (TTA), offering 100% financial protection to all customers: licence number Q7423. We are holders of an Air Travel Organiser’s Licence (ATOL), issued by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA): licence number 11544. All the flights and flight-inclusive holidays in this brochure are financially protected by the ATOL scheme. When you pay you will be supplied with an ATOL Certificate. Please ask for it and check to ensure that everything you booked (flights, hotels and other services) is listed on it. For more information about your ATOL financial protection certificate, please visit www.atol.org.uk/atolcertificate
What is ATOL protection?
The ATOL scheme is financial protection that protects you when you book a package trip that includes a flight. It is separate to travel insurance. It also includes some flight-only bookings sold by UK travel companies when they stop trading as an ATOL holder. It was introduced in 1973, as the popularity of overseas trips grew, and it is run by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
ATOL Certificates
When you book an ATOL protected trip, you will be given an ATOL Certificate by your travel company as soon as you pay any money for the trip, even if this is only a deposit. Your ATOL Certificate is proof that the trip you have booked is protected by the ATOL scheme. It will tell you what’s protected by ATOL, who’s covered, who is providing this protection (the travel business’ name and ATOL number). When you receive your ATOL Certificate, check that all the details on both sides of the Certificate match your trip or flight booking and look for the box entitled unique reference number. You will need to quote this number if there’s an emergency and if you need to make a claim. If you need more information, the Certificate tells you where to get support or advice. If there is something wrong with your ATOL Certificate or there has been an amendment to your booking, you should receive a new ATOL Certificate from your travel company. It will also tell you what to do if the ATOL holder you booked with stops trading as an ATOL holder. We recommend that you keep your ATOL Certificate somewhere safe and take either a paper or digital copy with you on your trip, so you know what to do in the event of an ATOL holder failure.
Air Travel Trust
The Air Travel Trust Fund (ATT) is the primary source of funding when an ATOL holder fails. Monies from the ATT are used to meet refund and repatriation costs arising from a failure. The Fund is administered on behalf of the ATT Trustees by the Consumer and Markets Group of the Civil Aviation Authority. The ATT is principally funded by ATOL Protection Contributions (APCs). It is a legal requirement for ATOL licence holders to pay APCs to the ATT for each person who books air travel covered by the ATOL financial protection scheme.
Who is the Travel Trust Association?
The Travel Trust Association is a travel trade association. TTA Members consist of travel agents, tour operators and travel organisers. The Travel Trust Association exists in order to protect you, the customer, with 100% financial protection and has been doing so for over 30 years. This means that every penny that you pay to TTA Members is protected by the mechanisms put in place by the Travel Trust Association.
What does it mean if a company is a member of the Travel Trust Association?
It means that you can book your holiday secure in the knowledge that there are arrangements in place which will protect you in the unlikely event of a TTA Member becoming insolvent. Insolvency protection is provided for package holidays and single travel services (e.g. accommodation-only), as described below. In addition to this insolvency protection, customers of TTA Members also have the benefit of fraud protection, which we describe further below.
Package holiday protection
If you have booked a package holiday including a flight, your booking will be ATOL protected and your ATOL Certificate will set out what is protected. In the event of the failure of the TTA Member, arrangements will be made by the Travel Trust Association to enable your holiday to go ahead, or alternatively for you to be refunded and/or repatriated. Further information on ATOL protection can be found on the Civil Aviation Authority’s website. If you have booked a package holiday which does not include a flight, then all payments made to a TTA Member for that package holiday are paid by that TTA Member into a specially designated trust account. In other words, when you pay Maitland Travel Lta, it will place all payments in the Maitland Travel Ltd Trust Account. Credit card payments are automatically deposited into the trust account via electronic processing. A trust account is a bank account designated to hold customer money. Your money remains in the Trust Account and is supervised by an appointed independent trustee who is either a banker, chartered or certified accountant or a solicitor. Both the TTA Member and the trustee are required to authorise payments from the trust account. Once your payment is held in the trust account, it will only be released in limited circumstances. As such, if the TTA Member fails, these arrangements will enable your holiday to go ahead or for you to be refunded and/or repatriated.
Single travel services protection (eg. for accommodation only)
All payments made to a TTA Member for single travel services (whether for transport, accommodation, entertainment or other activities) are paid by that TTA Member into a specially designated trust account in the same way as described above. Once your payment is held in the trust account, it will only be released in limited circumstances. For instance, before the completion of your holiday, the money will only be released to pay for the services which you have booked, such as to pay the airline or the accommodation provider. Alternatively, the money can also be released on completion of your holiday or if you cancel your holiday. These arrangements mean that, if the TTA Member fails, your suppliers will either already have been paid, or the money will be available in the trust account to pay the suppliers for your holiday (so that the holiday can go ahead). Alternatively, if this is not possible then money in the trust account can be used to refund you.
Fraud protection
In addition to the insolvency protection described above, there is further protection against the risk of suppliers not being paid because of the fraud or dishonesty of a TTA Member or the trustee, up to a maximum of £11,000 per booking. So, if you paid £2,000, which is not available in the trust account to pay suppliers due to the fraud or dishonesty of the TTA Member or the trustee, TTA guarantees to make up the loss of £2,000. When you make a booking, you will be supplied with a guarantee certificate which records who is protected by the guarantee. You can see the terms of our guarantee on the TTA website.
